Plot Summary:When her father is hanged for shooting his wife and her lover, half-breed Pearl Chavez goes to live with distant relatives in Texas. Welcomed by Laura Belle and her elder lawyer son Jesse, she meets with hostility from the ranch-owner himself, wheelchair-bound Senator Jackson McCanles, and with lustful interest from womanising, unruly younger son Lewt. Almost at once, already existing family tensions are exacerbated by her presence and the way she is physically drawn to Lewt.

派克少有的坏小子形象
8.4/10。①两男一女的三角恋：奔放的女主、牛仔男、律师男（其中女主和牛仔男既互相深爱又因各种原因互不在一起甚至最终相杀而死【死时互相抱着彼此】）。②牛仔男和律师男分别象征当时美国的一体两面：野蛮与文明。而女主作为印第安—美国混血，象征着双重困境：一个是作为女性，她是选择做所谓“野蛮”的奔放女性，还是做所谓符合美国“文明”的淑女；另一个是作为有被归化倾向的印第安人，她是选择狂野的西部，还是被白人主导的充满法律与纪律的美国。③浓烈而大气的高水平摄影美术（大气对应西部风土人情，浓烈对应感情故事）；夜晚宴会那段的两个长镜头调度水准高思路清晰。④作为传统故事片三角恋的刻画不够精妙（本质上是戏剧性做足但角色的塑造与转变刻画地不够细腻），导致故事显得有些狗血，扣0.5。

七年之痒里梦露讲格里高利派克的就是这部片子吧。最后女主单人独骑一把抢，既然没法拒绝那就同归于尽。
谁能想到格里高利·派克饰演放荡不羁、作恶多端的坏人也是如此出彩，片中几处的全画面红色用的真是神乎其技。
