Plot Summary:Boatman is Gianfranco Rosi's account of a boattrip along the Ganges river, together with his helmsman Gopal. They pass tourists and Indians who are bathing, working or meditating. In a series of small portraits Rosi depicts life on and at the banks of India's sacred river. Central theme of this film is the imagination of the endless circle of life and death, which is rooted in the lives of the Indian people, and which is convincingly manifested in the way they bid the dead farewell.

罗西的第一部长纪录片（其实不到一小时）是他NYU学生时期的印度之旅，挺有意思，成片像是一个游客在恒河偶遇一名船夫后不经意的见闻，实际是他在好几年间去了许多次特意寻到同一个船夫拍了许多素材才成的，而且全片看下来他的拍摄手法也有慢慢在变，从偶有对话到完全的观察式，很值得看
