Plot Summary:Joe, a young American soldier, is hit by a mortar shell on the last day of World War I. He lies in a hospital bed in a fate worse than death - a quadruple amputee who has lost his arms, legs, eyes, ears, mouth and nose. He remains conscious and able to think, thereby reliving his life through strange dreams and memories, unable to distinguish whether he is awake or dreaming. He remains frustrated by his situation, until one day when Joe discovers a unique way to communicate with his caregivers.

勃朗特唯一一部执导作品竟然没走常规路线？这一点还是出乎了我的意料，当然相对于欧洲艺术片来说，本片的技法还是停留在生疏笨拙的阶段，但近乎暧昧的优秀剧本和反战内核是值得慢慢品味的，现实与梦境、低语与呐喊，电影构筑的意识切换非常有意思。★★★

另类反战片。形式新颖，有点影片《潜水钟与蝴蝶》祖师的感觉。期间还充斥了略带实验风格的梦境式哲学类晦涩内容，虽略沉闷但亮点不少，结局令人回味。
090512 文学作品味浓，其中Johnny在回忆中同幻想的人物倾谈现实问题的场景文字感太强，几乎就是把小说原原本本变成影像，一查发现果然是原小说作者直接导演的片子，还是挺有特色的。
想看的是罗宾斯的那部却误买了这部...
