Plot Summary:Florence Ray is urged by her parents to marry a certain wealthy Mr. Carroll, and apparently consents, but in reality plans an elopement with Ned, her sweetheart. Papa Ray writes a letter to Mrs. Osgood, the wife of a business connection in New York, who has never seen Florence, that his daughter will arrive on Tuesday to buy her trousseau. Florence leaves, as planned, but gets off the train at St. Louis, meets Ned and elopes. In Cambric, Ohio, the mother of another Florence, whose last name is 'W'ray, receives a letter from Anna Bean, her married cousin in New York, inviting her on for a visit. Florence Wray goes, and arriving on Tuesday, is met at the station by Jim Osgood, who mistakes her for Florence Ray. A policeman sees the meeting and takes particular note of the couple. At the Osgood home Florence sees the letter from Papa Ray regarding the other Florence and realizes the mistake that has occurred. She has forgotten her cousin's married name, however, so she decides to let the deception go on until she can locate her relative. Anna's husband, puzzled over Florence's non-appearance, meets the station policeman and it is decided that Florence has been abducted. Meanwhile Florence Wray is having a grand time shopping with Mrs. Osgood in a beautiful limousine. Mrs. Osgood discovers that Jim Osgood is falling in love with Florence and warns him that the girl is engaged. The next day Florence's conscience begins to trouble her and she finally confesses to Jim her deception. He is astounded at first, then very happy, for he can now declare his love. He does so and is accepted. On a visit to Anna, Florence learns to her utter amazement that her husband-to-be is Jim Osgood, the millionaire. Mrs. Osgood's gracious consent to their marriage is won and everybody is made happy by Florence's little deception and the \"silent W,\" which played so prominent a part in the affair.
